In the Releasing Stress workshop, our goals are to better understand the unique stressors associated with living with chronic illness or pain – or as a caregiver to someone living with these challenges; and to explore several techniques to release stress and reduce its harmful effects on chronic illness and pain.

Overview

We will introduce and discuss some of the unique stressors experienced by the chronically ill and their caregivers, including isolation; interpersonal conflicts based on misunderstanding of illness and unrealistic expectations of the chronically ill and their caregivers; and internal stresses including how chronic illness and pain changes our abilities, and our struggles to maintain jobs, activities, and relationships we can no longer manage. We will look at some of the harmful effects these stressors place on us, and then explore different techniques to reduce or prevent these harmful effects.

It is our intent to share information about and practical experiences of mindfulness, meditation, yoga, and hypnosis to support improved quality of life for people living with chronic illness and pain, and their caregivers.

Resources

We will provide notes about the topics covered in the workshop, so you can focus on listening, without having to worry about taking detailed notes. A pen and notebook is recommended, should you wish to take down information not covered in the notes, or information that arises in the course of discussion.

Door Prizes

A few sets of healing affirmation cards, and free single class passes to chair yoga will be drawn at the tea break.

Bonuses

Following the workshop, you will be given access to two audio recordings, included a short hypnotic recording by Natascha Leimbigler; and a short guided body scan/progressive relaxation by Jane Waterman; so you can continue exploring to find stress release techniques that work for you and your daily life.

Carmen

Carmen brings the experience of a life managing fibromyalgia, chronic pain, and migraines, as well as decades of corporate experience supporting employee wellness programs. Carmen is a certified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator practitioner, and will help us understand our personality preferences, our responses to stress, and how we can minimize those responses. Carmen is also the creator of the Rainbow Travellers tarot deck, the Intuitive Reading e-course and e-book, and a Reiki master.

Jane

Jane has lived with several chronic illnesses since she was 24, including autoimmune disease, fibromyalgia, PCOS, migraines, endometriosis, depression, and anxiety. Jane has been blogging about invisible illness since 2012 on the website Blackbird at Night. Jane is a registered and certified chair yoga teacher, and has spent decades as a consumer of different traditional and therapeutic healing modalities including yoga, mindfulness, cognitive behavioural therapy, naturopathy, homeopathy, aromatherapy, and traditional medicine. All of these have a place in her healing toolkit. Jane will introduce several meditative practices including yoga breathing and postures to participants.

Special Guest, Natascha

Natascha is a certified clinical hypnotherapist, past-life regression specialist and Soul Key practitioner. Hypnotherapy helps to unlearn or deprogram the stress response, and relieve anxiety. We train your mind to stay calm and balanced instead of getting triggered back into stress mode.  You receive empowering tools and techniques to work with for lasting success. Natascha specializes in stress issues, weight loss and insomnia as well in spiritual hypnosis (past-life and life-between-lives regression). Natascha will guide us through a 30-minute stress release hypnotic session during the workshop.
